Apply to Volunteer

Volunteering to work abroad is a big step, especially somewhere as far away as Thailand, and should be considered carefully and seriously. We are here to make sure that working with CCD is definitely right for you, and to help you to be as effective as you can while you are out there.

To apply, email the Volunteer Coordinator and request an application form:

(If you do not hear from us within 10 days, please contact us again in case there has been a problem with our email!)

Application Process

Please allow adequate time for the application process. We recommend at least 4-6 months. Last-minute applications may be refused.

As the UK arm of CCD, For Life screens all people applying to volunteer at CCD from Europe. Our process protects the wellbeing of CCD children, staff and volunteers by ensuring that only those suitable for this role volunteer. CCD can become oversubscribed for volunteers, therefore this process also helps us to select the highest calibre of volunteers.

Selection Criteria

Our maximum capacity at any one time is 20 volunteers. If we are oversubscribed, not every application can be successful. When selecting volunteers, the following criteria will be applied:

  • Longer-term volunteers will be prioritised. It takes a few months to get used to the environment and get to grips with the language. Therefore CCD have a standard minimum volunteering time of 3 months to allow for this. Volunteers who are staying longer are preferred.
  • Professional skills are given priority over non-professionals.
  • Earlier Applications are prioritised. It takes some time to process your application, interview and train you in the UK, as well as for CCD to apply for your Thai work permit.. You also need to apply for a Non-Immigrant Thai Visa before you leave the UK. To allow for this time-frame, last-minute applications are therefore less likely to be considered. Please also note that changing your dates or details last minute may not be possible.
  • Flexible Dates will be prioritised. As CCD cannot have more than 20 volunteers at a time, you will be more successful in your application if you can be flexible with your dates.

All applicants are advised that an Enhanced Disclosure will be required from the Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) before they can be accepted to volunteer at CCD. This will include details of cautions, reprimands or final warnings, as well as convictions and other relevant information. Our Policy on Screening Volunteers Regarding Criminal Convictions is available on request.

Screening Process

  • Complete your application form and return it to: volunteers@4lifethailand.org
  • If you are considered suitable to volunteer, you will be invited to attend an interview at our office in London. This is usually during normal office hours.
  • Following your interview, two references will be obtained, and For Life will arrange an enhanced disclosure from the Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS). Please refer to our Policy on Recruiting Volunteers Regarding Criminal Convictions for further details (available on request).
  • Once we have received your references and DBS disclosure, we will confirm whether or not you are accepted to volunteer. We will then confirm dates with you so that you can book flights and arrange travel.
  • If accepted, you will be required to attend a training day at our office in London. This training is compulsory and you will not be able to go to CCD before attending one of these sessions. Please make sure you factor this into your schedule.
  • Prior to your departure, you will need to obtain a Non-Immigrant Visa from the Thai Consulate (please refer to our FAQs section for further details).

Please note:

  • Obtaining DBS checks usually takes 1-6 weeks but can take much longer, therefore you must apply within plenty of time before you are planning on going.
  • We coordinate volunteers to arrive together on one “arrival day” in each month, and therefore your preferred arrival date needs to be negotiated with For Life before you book any flights or make travel arrangements
  • Applications for less than three months will not be considered, except in very individual circumstances – please do contact us regarding this.
  • Whilst we appreciate that volunteers give of their time and energy for free, to ensure the most benefit for CCD, a maximum of 20 days holiday pro rata applies for all volunteers. Please see our FAQs section for more details.

For Life retains the right to accept or refuse volunteers based on our Screening Volunteers Regarding Criminal Convictions policy.
